There are just four more days to RAW’s AXIS event in Charlotte. As a featured artist, Sala Faruq has a ticket quota to meet. Every ticket you purchase on her behalf helps to support her place in the show. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door.

As one of the first 20 people to purchase a ticket on behalf of Sala Faruq by Wednesday, October 22, 2014, your name will automatically be entered into a raffle to win one of two gifts. Winner gets to choose either a Sala Faruq EcoFab gourd art necklace (see below) or a set of her Afro-Originals® Heritage Collection notecards (see below) each valued at $20.00 each.

The Black Presence In Canada

An unidentified black woman, [ca. 1890].
(Archives of Ontario, F2076-16-4-7)
I came across the Archives of Ontario website while looking for vintage images of people of African decent. Much to my surprise and delight, there is a wealth of images like the one to the left on the site.Other resources relating to the Black presence in Canada include online exhibits and a Lesson Resource Kit about Black Canadian Migration Experiences.

I found this lovely cast iron footstool at a thrift store and instantly knew it would be perfect for reupholstering with one of my fabric designs. I chose the design, Beauty Is Here Because I am Here.  And, the project turned out more beautiful than I had imagined.
